This will be an ongoing Blog post on upgrading to Windows 7.

I am weary of upgrading my Laptop (Vista) to Windows 7 just because that is my lifeline and even though I back up my files, it is my programs that would be the headache to reinstall everything.

I will be upgrading my old desktop (XP) which will have to do a clean upgrade (install).

I took advantage of an offer (Good until Jan 3, 2010) from http://www.win741.com/ for $29.99 about $70 dollars off retail voice. I did pay extra to get a hard copy back up (they do have a digital back up copy for $$).

So my adventure begins. I will keep you all up-to-date.

So my first day of trying to upgrade did not work that well. The Desktop I am trying it on, hasn’t been on for over a month at least. I started downloading and it got to 5% and then froze. After that anytime I tried to restart it or delete and start over again, it did not work and just sat there. It would also not allow me to connect to the internet, let me rephrase, browsers would say can not open page, but it was connected.

Well not sure what was the deal. After I took off all my anti virus programs and unblocked my firewall (I do not suggest usually doing that) I was able to install the application to install Windows 7. It was not that difficult after getting it to work. I haven’t played around with the options or what the difference between Vista or W7. So far the one thing I saw was the background changes (if you decide for that) every 5 mins (again you can adjust time). I also did notice even though I told it to do a clean install, there was a file with all my old programs and documents. I did not test to see if the program would work, I instead wanted to start fresh and didn’t want anything extra so I deleted the window.old file and cleaned up 64GB of old junk. If there is anything else to report I will keep adding it here.
